To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience: (a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work, that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-04: Applicant(s) must meet one of the following minimum requirements to meet the GS-04 level: Your resume must demonstrate 6 months of general experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter of the position to be filled AND 6 months of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-03 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Perform clerical duties such as faxing, patient check-in, answering phones, and troubleshooting problem orders; Verify identity of patient to ensure proper labeling of collection vials; Ensure all equipment is properly sanitized before collecting blood. Explain venipuncture/capillary draw procedures to patients; Draw blood by venipuncture and/or capillary puncture; OR Successfully completed an associate-degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year’s duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; OR Successfully completed 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of a full-time training course of approximately a year’s duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology) and that, in addition, included supervised laboratory practice incident to the diagnostic process and the treatment of patients; OR Successfully completed 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled; OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-04 grade level. GS-05: Applicant(s) must meet one of the following minimum requirements to meet the GS-05 level: Your resume must demonstrate 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Perform clerical duties such as faxing, patient check-in, answering phones, and troubleshooting problem orders; Verify identity of patient to ensure proper labeling of collection vials; Select correct collection tubes for requested testing and uses appropriate order of draw; Withdraw appropriate quantities of blood by venipuncture and/or capillary puncture using appropriate age specific techniques; Evaluate collected specimen to determine suitability for analysis; OR A bachelor’s degree with major study in medical or clinical laboratory or a related field such as chemistry and/or the biological sciences; OR a bachelor’s degree in any field that includes at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled. Eligible courses may include chemistry, hematology, blood banking, microbiology, or the biological sciences; OR Combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level. GS-06: Applicant(s) must meet one of the following minimum requirements to meet the GS-06 level: Your resume must demonstrate 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: Evaluate collected specimen to determine suitability for analysis; Collect blood specimens using aseptic and sterile techniques to provide care appropriate to age of patients served; Participates in proficiency testing, reporting of results, and corrective action documentation; Operate waived analytical instruments and independently perform recurring tests and analysis. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
This position serves as a Phlebotomist with the Laboratory Department located at the El Reno Indian Health Center in El Reno, OK. The primary purpose of this position is to perform all aspects of phlebotomy to obtain blood samples and assist in preparation of patient specimens for shipment. This position reports to the Laboratory Supervisor of the El Reno clinic.
