In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level defined as assisting in atmospheric science, air modeling, or meteorological subject areas and have experience in leading air quality model work, providing technical oversight, and assisting with regulatory assessment and review to meet the Clean Air Act program objectives. To qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as serving as a subject matter expert in atmospheric science, air modeling, or meteorological subject areas and have expertise in leading air quality model work, providing technical oversight, and assisting and providing regulatory assessment and review to meet the Clean Air Act program objectives. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and theories of the science of meteorology and air quality. Knowledge of advanced computational methods and operating systems and statistical analysis methods. Knowledge of regulatory programs under the Clean Air Act. Knowledge of meteorological models and air quality models routinely employed in regulatory modeling analyses. Skill in communicating complicated, technical information to a sophisticated audience as well as laymen and the general public. Ability to work independently as well as coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to prioritize and perform complex tasks in a timely manner. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position is in Region 10, Laboratory Services and Applied Science Division, Quality and Air Assessment Branch.
