Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as experience performing at least three of the following: (1) assisting in the administering of a privacy information program for an organization, (2) experience with activities that required implementation of laws and other guidelines related to privacy information, (3) being responsible for preparing privacy policy and procedural guidance, (4) evaluating compliance with organizational policies, applicable law and local guidance, (5) conducting training on privacy procedures, and (6) overseeing the organization’s personally identifiable information protection processes and procedures. CIPP certification is desirable. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. The Privacy Program Specialist assists the Smithsonian Privacy Officer (SPO) with the day-to-day administration of the information privacy program and all privacy-related activities for the SI.
