In order to qualify for the Natural Resource Specialist, you must meet BOTH the Basic Education Requirement and the Additional Requirements. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. A copy of your unofficial transcripts must be provided with your application. Basic Education Requirement: A. Degree: A 4-year degree from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must also meet the qualifications below: GS-07: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service or its non-Federal equivalent that included assisting with environmental compliance, recreation, or land resource management activities; and drafting technical documentation. OR Education: One full year of graduate level education. The education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work. OR Superior Academic Achievement: Must meet one of the following: Upper 1/3 of graduating class based on completed courses; 3.0 or higher out of possible 4.0 based on four years of education or based on final two years of curriculum; 3.5 out of a possible 4.0 based on average of required major courses or required major courses in final two years of curriculum; Member of national scholastic honor society which meets requirements of Association of College Honor Societies. OR Combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above. GS-09: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service or its non-Federal equivalent that included experience analyzing and assisting with projects related to the conservation and management of fish and wildlife resources; analyzing environmental compliance, recreation or land resource management activities; and preparing technical documentation. OR Education: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree. OR Combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above. GS-11: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service or its non-Federal equivalent that included experience managing projects related to the conservation and management of fish and wildlife resources; analyzing and offering recommendations related to environmental compliance, recreation or land resource management activities, and finalizing technical documentation. OR Education: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, in a related field. OR Combination of graduate education and specialized experience as described above. The superior academic achievement provision is to be used to determine eligibility for applicable GS-07 level positions of persons who have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) all the requirements for bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a qualifying grade point average (GPA), class standing, or honors society.
