Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Education Requirement – Natural Resources Specialist (Environmental Compliance), 0401: A. Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. To qualify at the GS-11, you must have: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying environmental practices, principles and techniques sufficient to plan and implement environmental, recreational, and natural resource management activities; conducting in-house inspections to ensure environmental compliance including; leading an interdisciplinary team to perform environmental assessments utilizing the Environmental Review Guide for Operations (ERGO) supplement; participating in activities associated with real estate matters (such as leases, licenses, permits and easements); interacting with the public in a natural resource setting; familiarity with Operations and Maintenance Recreation programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09); OR Education: 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for this position. Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade the grade level; then add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal 100 percent to qualify for this position. (To compute the percentage, divide you total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify).
