MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: SCREEN-OUT: Do you have the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the work of a Maintenance Mechanic, as described in the vacancy announcement, without more than normal supervision? Although no specific amount of experience, education, or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Handbook X-118C for the WG-4749 series is used as a basis for qualifications. Applicants must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in the Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position. The job elements of a Maintenance Mechanic are listed below. Your rating will be based on your proficiency in these competencies. Examples of experience: Performed work in all areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, equipment repair, painting, welding, and locksmith. Able to operate heavy equipment such as G-series Skid-steer loader, forklift, Grader, Bobcat, and dump truck. Performs minor preventive maintenance on all equipment and test all equipment for effective/efficient use. Physical Requirements: The work may require continual standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching above the head, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Occasionally works in awkward and cramped conditions when making repairs, work is sometime performed on ladders and /or scaffolds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside the government quarters and occasionally in inclement weather. Work is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. Incumbent may perform work where bad smelling fumes are present. Incumbent has frequent exposure to possibility of cuts, bruises, electrical shock, chemical irritations and broken bones while working around machinery and equipment. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether the experience as gained a part-time or full-time occupation. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position they have held. Work experience must contain dates and hours worked per week. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
This position is located at Shiprock Service Unit, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Division of Administrative Services, Facility Management Branch, Shiprock, NM. Incumbent performs work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices; Plumbing, Carpentry, Equipment Repair Painting, and Electrical. Incumbent reports to the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor or Facility Manager.
