Provide course descriptions as necessary. GS-06: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5). GS-06: There is no substitution of education for this position. Examples of specialized experience include: Performing suppression operations and instructing others during initial attack or assisting with prescribed burns. Giving formal talks and informally providing information on fire prevention laws, rules, and regulations. Issuing various permits and ensuring users were in compliance with rules and regulations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. In accordance with USDA Department Regulation 4430-792-2, this position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the USDA Drug Free Workplace Program and subject to pre-employment drug testing. All applicants selected for this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Incumbents of this position will be required to submit to a urinalysis on an ongoing random basis, after appointment as directed. This position has been established on a Forest Service Unit and serves as a Fire Prevention Technician. This position is responsible for development, implementation and administration of the units Fire Prevention Program. The primary purpose of this position is wildland fire management.
