In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-11 level, you must have one of the following: 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level defined as Determining the nature, size and extent of a spill or release; determining the potential hazards and resources needed to clean up; assist in conducting investigations to aid in enforcement actions. 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree; or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; the education must be directly related and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position equivalent combination of education and experience Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Skill in evaluating and utilizing hazardous waste site cleanup techniques and technologies. Knowledge of Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), and other federal, state, and local environmental regulations; Knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) Skill in written communication Knowledge of case development involving hazardous waste site investigation and remediation, fact-finding, and collection and preservation of evidence for civil or criminal prosecution. Ability to serve as an advisor for environmental emergency and uncontrolled hazardous waste site response; Skill in oral communication Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. This position is in Region 5, Superfund & Emergency Management Division, Emergency Response Branch 1, Emergency Response Section 1.
