Supervisory Network Engineer
U.S. Coast Guard - Department of Homeland Security
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a closely related field, with at least 5 years of progressive experience in network engineering. Prior supervisory experience with demonstrated experience in leading complex network design and implementation projects. Comprehensive knowledge of advanced networking protocols and network infrastructure components (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls). Experienced in network security practices, including experience with IDS/IPS, firewalls, and anti-virus software. Experience implementation and administration of VMWare. Technical Certification: Cisco Certified Network Associate. Certification must be valid (not expired) as defined by the policy of the certification issuer. Candidates without the required certification may be placed into this job but must obtain the required certification within 6 months of appointment; failure to obtain the proper certification requirement will result in termination of employment. Availability to travel on an occasional basis. Preferred (In addition to the minimum): Industry-recognized certifications such as CCNP/CCIE, or similar. Prior leadership experience with a proven track record of managing technical teams, particularly in supervising Senior IT Technicians. Advanced knowledge and experience in implementing network security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO/IEC 27001). Demonstrated ability in project management, including familiarity with PMI methodologies or possession of PMP certification.
