Biological Science Technician (Fish)

Only experience and education obtained by 11/12/2024 will be considered. In order to qualify for this position, you must possess the Minimum Qualification. Minimum Qualification [GS-05] Possess one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-04 grade level in Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes: 1) Assist with conducting surveys of fish/aquatic species and their habitat, 2) Assist with accurately collecting, recording and summarizing biological data collected during fish/aquatic surveys; and 3) Interact collaboratively with colleagues to complete projects related to fish or aquatic species; NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified. OR Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics and at least 6 semester hours of courses such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; OR Possess a combination of specialized experience (as described above in 1) and education (as described above in 2). Minimum Qualification [GS-06] Possess one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-05 grade level in Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes: 1) Conduct surveys of fish/aquatic species and their habitat, 2) Collect, record and summarize biological data collected during fish/aquatic surveys; 3) Interact collaboratively with colleagues to complete projects related to fish or aquatic species; 4) Use seines and nets to collect fish; and 5) Experience securing, transporting/trailering, loading/packing, launching/retrieving, and maneuvering/operating watercraft safely for electrofishing and/or netting on large rivers, reservoirs, lakes, and ponds; NOTE: Your resume must contain sufficient information in these areas to be found qualified. OR Possess one full year of progressively higher-level graduate education (18 semester hours) leading to a master’s or equivalent graduate degree, in a field related to fisheries; OR Possess a combination of graduate level education and specialized experience directly related to the position as described above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
