ORDNANCE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is a Title 32 excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Vermont Air National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. OPEN AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: AREA 1, 2, 3 Area I: All current On-board Permanent and Indefinite Dual Status 32 and Title 5 (Competitive and Excepted) Technicians (Tenure: 1-Career, 2-Conditional, 3-Indefinite) – Only those Vermont National Guard members who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired within that National Guard component applying for a position within the component which they are currently employed. Area II: All Members of the Vermont Air National Guard. Area III: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the VTNG, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state’s National Guard. Military Rank/Grade: SRA/E4 through TSgt/E6. Work involved in maintaining and overhauling major items and assemblies of ordnance systems and equipment. The work requires the knowledge and application of mechanical and electrical principles and the skill to perform intricate repair and adjustment of hydraulic and pneumatic components and devices. The work also requires skill in such processes as troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, rebuilding, assembling, testing, and installing a variety of equipment such as missiles, torpedoes, mines, depth charges, and associated testing equipment and transporting, handling, erecting, and launching devices Minimum Requirements: Experience or training which has provided the candidate with the knowledge and application of mechanical and electrical principles and the skill to perform intricate repair and adjustment of hydraulic and pneumatic components and devices. Specialized Experience: 18 Months Experience or training in repairing, rebuilding, modifying, and testing a variety of major subassemblies. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and determining repair in major components consisting of numerous assemblies, interrelated electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic assemblies, and components. Experience in the use of precision measurement equipment. Experience interpreting and applying a variety of technical manuals and similar published materials. Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates’ experience should be evaluated based on duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant’s record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics): -Comprehensive knowledge of missile and ordnance systems. -Ability to identify ordnance by filler, color code, markings, or physical description. -Comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of electronics principles, practices, and inter-related processes for the purpose of independently troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing electronic, mechanical, or electromechanical faults, issues, etc. -Skill in interpreting complex drawings, specifications schematics and performs intricate shop mathematics for complete systems -Comprehensive skills in the use of precision measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, potentiometers, frequency signal generators, etc. as well as in troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating and maintaining missiles and missile test equipment. -Ability to advise the Ordnance Equipment Mechanic Supervisor of work progress and recommendations for priority of work. -Ability to interpret assignments given in the form of work orders, inspection reports, or verbal instructions. -Ability to plan work sequences, select tools and repair parts, and otherwise carry out assignments, referring only highly unusual or extremely difficult problems to the supervisor. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES: -This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of the Defense are not exempt from this provision. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. -Must have a valid driver’s license (to get a gov cert for munitions transport) Please be advised: 1.
