Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Toolmaker without more than normal supervision. Theses duties or tasks include: Programming, setting up and operating machines of the machinist trade, i.e., internal and external grinders, tool and cutter grinders, milling machines, lathes, shapers, and profile grinders; to include material selection and machining to very close tolerances. – Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen Out Ability To Use Hand Tools for Machine Shop Ability To Use Shop Drawings Knowledge of Metals Measurement and Layout Operation of Machine Tools Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires continuous standing on concrete floors, moderate physical effort in setting up machines, and considerable stooping, reaching, lifting and handling of tools and instruments. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors in a well lighted and heated shop, subject to dust, dirt and fumes, and possible danger to eyes and skin from flying hot metal chips, to lungs from grinding dust, and to fingers and hands from moving and positioning machine attachments, stock metal, part, etc.
