To be eligible for consideration, you must first meet the Basic Education Requirement for this position, having: A) Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. **OR** B) Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Graduate study in the social sciences or humanities may also be credited when such study included training in historical research methodology; or the thesis approached the subject from an historical viewpoint and used professional historical research methodology and techniques in its preparation. **AND** In order to be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the education and/or specialized experience requirement – this information must be clearly supported in the resume. To qualify at the GS-11: Qualifying experience at GS-11 is one year of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-09 in Federal service. Specialized experience at this level is defined as providing cultural resource program support and professional advice on historic structures; participate as a professional member of an interdisciplinary team; provide technical assistance and serve as a subject matter expert in the conduct of historic preservation activities; plan or participate in the planning of cultural resource projects or studies; research, develop, and prepare manuscripts for professional publications; and/or perform collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, and conservation of collections. You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. You may combine specialized experience and education to meet the minimum qualifications. For this position related field is defined as: Architecture, Architectural History, Archaeology, Geography, Political Science, Historic Preservation, Heritage Resources Management, Cultural Resources Management, Public History, Landscape Architecture, or Historic Architecture. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 11/12/2024.
