Basic Qualifications: Education Requirement: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure Requirement: Passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Minimum Qualifications: GS-05: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with no experience OR Diploma/associate degree in professional nursing & 1 year of professional nursing experience which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position GS-07: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing & eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision OR Bachelor’s degree in Nursing & 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position OR Diploma/associate degree in professional nursing & 2 years of professional nursing experience which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position OR Completion of at least 1 year of graduate education in a professional nursing program GS-09: Master’s degree in professional nursing OR At least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position & possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program GS-11: PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing program or related medical science field OR At least 1 year of professional nursing experience, equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, & abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position & possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree from a professional nursing program GS-12 At least 1 year of professional nursing experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service such as evaluating and providing scientific advice and technical assistance in the development and implementation of infection prevention program activities. GS-13 At least 1 year of professional nursing experience, equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service such as evaluating and providing scientific advice and technical assistance in the development and implementation of infection prevention program activities and analyzing data related to healthcare-associated infections. GS-14 At least 1 year of professional nursing experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service such as leading nursing-related consultation and technical assistance regarding healthcare associated infections and surveillance methodology and practices. GS-15 At least 1 year of professional nursing experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service such as supporting and assisting with development of policies and guidelines related to strengthening health systems and nursing leadership; providing support for quality management and improvement of Public Health Systems programs; and/or providing leadership and technical expertise and support in transitioning health systems strengthening programs to enhance sustainability and build indigenous capacity. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Promotion potential: Promotion to the next grade level is at management’s discretion and is based on your meeting qualifications and time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and administrative approval. Promotion to the next grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.
