Data Scientist

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Data Scientist: A. Degree: Bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes collaborating with cross functional teams to develop data-driven solutions that address business and/or user challenges, translating findings of studies into policy recommendations, formulating requirements for the development of data systems supporting analytical functions, testing the effectiveness of developmental data systems for their ability to meet analytical requirements, and recommending data science approaches that will address gap analysis, needs assessment, and/or long and short-term outcomes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone–no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
About the Position: This position is located in the Voluntary Education Program within the Directorate for Officer and Enlisted Personnel Management, Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (Military Personnel Policy), Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness). This is a Direct Hire solicitation.
