To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Exercises good judgement and makes sound decisions; understanding of medical center policies and procedures; knowledge of office procedures, filing system, various references and handbooks; knowledge of personal computer equipment, printers, and software; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; Transmits, receives and acknowledges electronic mail; knowledge of recordkeeping and documentation of minutes; qualified typist; knowledge of medical terminology; knowledgeable in setting up conference meetings. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have (4) full years of education above high school. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have any combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year). One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED). Proficiency Requirements: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.40 words per minute typing speed Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
This position serves as the only program support for the Education and Workforce Development Service, performing a wide variety of clerical, administrative and program support tasks associated with maintaining the various education programs/policies that comprise Education and Workforce Development.
