In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA’s unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Providing technical leadership, advice, guidance and oversight on geologic expeditions, lunar surface exploration, planetary science operations, or human exploration missions across communities such as academic researchers, flight controllers or operations, astronauts, spacecraft design engineers, management; Leading multi-discipline engineering, scientific or technology programs, projects or task teams to conduct analyses and recommend solutions for technical issues encountered in a variety of studies; Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders within the research or spaceflight community and advising others on technical issues related to space or planetary exploration, and resolving problems that impact project performance (e.g., addressing critical timelines, resource allocation, compatibility of systems and subsystems, and constraints). You will serve as the Branch Chief for the Exploration Science Office in the Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science Division. The Exploration Science Office is responsible for supporting and preparing for terrestrial and planetary exploration, operations, and science. In particular, Artemis and lunar surface science training and operations integration in addition to acquiring and interpreting imagery for crew safety and spacecraft performance, science, and supporting disaster response.
