Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Group Coverage Qualifications Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. GS-04 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: I have one year of general experience which includes a knowledge of a body of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed 2 full years above high school. This is completed progressive study at an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college, or university where the institution normally requires a high school diploma or equivalent for admission. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement; however, and have at least one year of progressive study at an accredited business, technical school, junior college, college, or university. Therefore, have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. GS-05 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have or will have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level at the closing of this announcement which includes a basic knowledge of standard procedures regarding fire protection and / or prevention program; knowledge of administrative procedures, guidelines, methods, and safety requirements used in the dispatch of personnel, equipment and supplies to support the needs of requesting units. Skill in communicating with internal and external customers during emergency events. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed 4 full years above high school. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: I have a combination of specialized experience and education. A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. GS-06 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have or will have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level at the closing of this announcement which includes a practical knowledge of standard procedures regarding fire protection and / or prevention program; knowledge of standard logistical and administrative procedures, guidelines, methods and procedures, and safety requirements used in the dispatch of personnel, equipment and supplies to support the needs of requesting units. Skilled in communicating through a dispatch center system during emergency events. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in–grade requirements to be considered eligible. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. One year at the GS-04 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-05 level, and one year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of basic and specialized fire alarm systems equipment, operation, techniques and procedures, to include research and retrieving information from various guidebooks and other resources. 2. Knowledge and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using tact and courtesy. 3. Knowledge of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and technical orders. 4. Knowledge and ability to learn computer programs in order to track vehicle status, manning, personnel assignments, resolve discrepancies and prepare reports. 5. Basic knowledge of frequently used and clearly stated instructions and regulations to respond to a range of recurring questions. 6. Skill in operating complex communications systems such as multi-line telephones, two way radios, alarm equipment, public address systems and voice recording equipment. 7. Ability to act calm, rational and to speak clearly and distinctly at all times while interviewing people and gathering information. 8. Familiar with the disaster preparedness emergency response plan, firefighting techniques, equipment capabilities, various types of structures, mutual aid agreements/department capabilities. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Firefighting Equipment Dispatcher at Hanscom AFB Fire Department with delegated responsibility for receiving all types of fire alarm, medical, aircraft, hazardous materials, and mutual aid emergency calls and dispatching a wide variety of emergency vehicles and personnel to Hanscom AFB, and off base responses.
