To Be Eligible For An Appointment Under The Recent Graduates Program You Must Meet The Following Requirements: A. You must be a recent graduate who has completed, within the previous two years, some associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution such as an accredited technical or vocational school; a 2- or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum. Note: Certificate program is defined as post-secondary education in a qualifying educational institution equal to at least one academic year of full-time study that’s part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum. If you are a current student projected to graduate within 90 days of the closing date of this announcement, you are encouraged to apply. Proof of graduation is required prior to appointment. B. Veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their 2-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty; however, eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed 6 years from the date on which the degree or certificate was obtained. The date of release or discharge from active duty should be later than the date the degree or certificate was obtained. In addition to the meeting the above eligibility requirements for a Recent Graduate appointment, you must also meet the following experience and/or education qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration. To Qualify At The GS-07 Grade Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-6 level) that demonstrates: Assisting in researching and interpreting basic regulations and guides. Assisting in development of staffing reports. Answering routine inquires from the field and customers on personnel, and management issues. Personnel management and files / records management experience. Maintaining, coordinating calendars and events. Compiling and assembling data, creating and maintaining spreadsheets, personnel, training, leave, staffing or other administrative requirements. Your specialized experience must be clearly and thoroughly described in your resume in order to be creditable. OR Successful completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education OR Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) after completing a bachelor’s degree. S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. 1. Class standing. Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. 2. Grade-point average (G.P.A.). Applicants must have a grade-point average of: a. 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B” or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; OR b. 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B+” or better) based on the average of the required course completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. 3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed below. These honor societies are listed by the Association of College Honor Societies: https://www.achshonor.org/. Agencies considering eligibility based on any society not included in the following list must ensure that the honor society meets the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. OR Combination of Education and Experience: applicable post high-school education and experience as noted above. The total percentage must equal at least 100%. This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
