Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Information Technology Specialist: Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes system administration of all approved systems assigned, troubleshooting, repair and customer assistance, and Information Assurance services administration; ensures appropriate network resources provided for system hardware maintenance, system file backup, and system hardware/software/data security of specialized experience. Applicants must possess Information Technology (IT) related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies as defined: 1) Attention to Detail – Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. (Position Example: Closely monitors network devices and interconnected equipment to verify operational capability); 2) Customer Service – Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations. (Example: Provides technical oversight to customers for telecommunications networks and other systems); 3) Oral Communication – Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information. (Example: Advises and counsels customers on network services); and 4) Problem Solving – Identifies problems; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and to make recommendations. (Example: Provide knowledgeable technical advice in resolving network outages). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-09. OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Computer Science, Information Science or Technology Management. Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Network Operation System Administration Telecommunications Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
About the Position: Serve as Information Technology Specialist for Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), Fort Liberty, which encompasses the MEDCEN, Dental Activity (DENTAC) units, outlying clinics and the other medical community. Provides technical advice to members of WAMC on implementation and execution of existing policies, plans, programs, regulations and procedures related to effective and economical telecommunications network/data/voice systems.
