In order to qualify for the Economist position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications: BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Must possess one of the following. Degree: Bachelor’s or higher degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. (Must submit transcripts) or Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Must submit transcripts) FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties: Conducting cost-benefit analysis, applied economic analysis, and/or regulatory impact analysis to address economic concerns; Performing duties such as initiating, creating, developing, designing, executing, and documenting a wide array of economic analyses and tasks to facilitate systematic data collection, analysis, modeling, reporting, and policy contributions for an office; Documenting and analyzing the fundamental objectives, methodologies, assumptions, and conclusions to identify implications found during research and analyses; and Utilizing foundational economic theories, research, and principles to evaluate the effectiveness of policy and regulation. (Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.) Note: There is no education substitution at the GS-12 grade level. FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties: Conducting cost-benefit analysis, applied economic evaluations, and/or reviews of regulatory impact assessments to address economic concerns; Addressing economic matters related to national studies that affect the policy, guides, and procedures of an organization; Performing duties such as initiating, conceptualizing, developing, designing, executing, and documenting a wide array of economic analyses and projects to facilitate systematic data collection, analysis, modeling, reporting, and policy contributions for an office; Documenting and scrutinizing the fundamental objectives, methodologies, assumptions, and conclusions of economic research to identify implications and recommend solutions; and Utilizing foundational economic theories, research methodologies, and principles to evaluate the effectiveness of policy and regulation. (Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible.) Note: There is no education substitution at the GS-13 grade level. NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of their transcripts for verification. Your resume must include detailed information as it relates to the responsibilities and specialized experience for this position. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
