For the GS-10: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Interpreting and analyzing designs, diagrams, and schematics to evaluate feasibility; 2) Troubleshooting hardware and software of laboratory systems such as RADAR, robotics, and environmental systems; AND 3) Applying knowledge of electronics and components such as microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators to design control computers. For the GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Designing, developing, and integrating computer hardware, peripherals, sensors, controllers, and networks for use in specialized control systems; 2) Maintaining complex lab systems such as robotic systems, radar, sonar, vision systems, communications systems, embedded computing and environmental testing systems; AND 3) Advising and assisting others on the best project design techniques and component selection. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
