To qualify for this position all applicants must meet one of the following for the GS-7 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Housing Management Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience includes working as the initial point of contact for inquiries to include lodging criteria, referral processes, staff/volunteer opportunities, and monetary donations; overseeing maintenance and repair of the building; accurately collects, compiles, tracks, and reports data and statistical information to support program operations; performs financial management including reviews budget status and makes necessary spending adjustments; Assists in the development of informational packets and correspondence relating to the program. ~OR~ EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Successful completed one (1) full year of graduate level education that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ SUPERIOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT (SAA): Completion of all the requirements for a bachelor’s degree in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled and one of the following: S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Class standing — Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-point average (G.P.A.) — Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B” or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B+” or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2years of the curriculum. 3. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society — Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies listed below. Agencies considering eligibility based on any society not included in the following list must ensure that the honor society meets the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. NOTE: Copies of transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ COMBINATION OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: An equivalent combination of successfully completed education and specialized experience directly related to the work of the position as outlined above that meets the requirements of the position. Only education beyond a bachelor’s degree may be used to qualify applicants for the GS-07 level. NOTE: If using education combined with specialized experience to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The duties and responsibilities of the position require mobility between various floors and rooms within the Fisher Houses and various other buildings at the medical facility campus and off campus locations. Average physical ability, dexterity, and strength are needed for this position. This includes preparation for open houses and special programs. Although some of the work is sedentary, the employee will be walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs, and carrying some light items (under 50 pounds) such as moving/lifting of equipment, carrying boxes of donated items. Work may also involve driving a government vehicle and/or golf cart for the purpose of transporting Fisher House guests and delivering materials to and from the medical facility. Trips into the community to pick up supplies and/or attend meetings in support of Fisher House will be required. The employee must be able to complete the tasks for receiving, transporting supplies, and conducting meetings in the community. The Housing Management Assistant position is located within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VISN 10, John D. Dingell VA Medical Facility. The Housing Management Assistant assists the Housing Manger with on-site management, planning, operation, and administrative coordination of the Fisher House Lodging program and reports to the Housing Manager.
