THE ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN SERIES HAS AN INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT. ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THIS REQUIREMENT IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED. You must meet the “Individual Occupational Requirements” and the “Specialized Experience” as described below, to qualify for the Electronics Technician position. This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying: Knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics, such as a knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics. Knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance; and Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems related to, but less than, a full professional knowledge of electronic engineering. Please review the additional information about the Individual Occupational Requirement which can be found here: Electronics Technical Series 0856 (opm.gov) In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR), applicants must meet the following specialized experience. Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-08 or higher, to qualify for this position. For this position, examples of qualifying experience include: Qualifying specialized experience for the GS-09 includes: Assisting in the maintenance of instrument calibration systems that provide working standard against which field instruments will be tested and calibrated. Initiating requisitions for spare parts for both the safety and industrial hygiene instruments; and/or Assisting in reviewing calibration procedures, which are used to evaluate instruments accurately. OR Education: Master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position: OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position.
This position serves as an Electronics Technician for the Directorate of Technical Support and Emergency Management (DTSEM), OSHA Technical Center, Engineer Support Division. This position is inside the bargaining unit. This position is at the full performance level. Selectee will be expected to report to OSHA Technical Center, Sandy, UT; this is not a virtual position. Current DOL policy requires on-site work at least 5 days per pay period.
