Required Qualifications: United States citizenship is required. Applicants must possess a J.D. degree and have at least one year post-J.D. experience. Applicants must be an active member in good standing of the bar (any jurisdiction). In addition, the Local Rules for the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia require all Assistant United States Attorneys to become members of the West Virginia State Bar within one year of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate a quick analytical ability and the faculty to accurately and precisely articulate the critical issues in a case. Applicants must demonstrate superior oral and writing skills as well as strong research and interpersonal skills and good judgment. Applicants must possess excellent communication and courtroom skills and exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff and client agencies. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to function, with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment. Preferred Qualifications: The applicant should be self-motivated, possess impeccable integrity, and a demonstrated commitment to professionalism, ethics, justice and public service.
