OPM STANDARDS: Pathways Internship Positions standard describes the qualification requirements for Schedule D, Internship appointments under the Pathways Programs authorized by Executive Order 13562 and applies to the white-collar occupations listed in the section. To qualify, the candidate must: Be at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment. Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student on at least a half-time schedule at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program. Qualifying Educational Institutions are any of the following: 1) A public high school whose curriculum has been approved by a State or local governing body; 2) A private school that provides secondary education as determined under State law; 3) A home school that is allowed to operate in a State; 4) Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education: A technical or vocational school; a 2-year or 4-year college or university; a graduate or professional school (e.g. law school, medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum. Must meet the above requirements of a student throughout the duration of your appointment in the Pathways Internship Program. This includes providing proof of enrollment or acceptance of enrollment and failure to do so will result in lost of consideration. Applicants who have graduated and not enrolled as a student during the internship is not eligible. Must meet the minimum requirements of the selected band level as described below. This position is being filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). The system replaced the Federal GS pay plan structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. Non-supervisory positions cap out at interval 3 of the band. The ZP-1 is equivalent to the GS-1 through GS-6 grade levels. The ZP-2 is equivalent to the GS-7 through GS-10 grade levels. To qualify at the ZP-1, you must meet one of the following: Be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in computer science; AND Have at least a 2.9 Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale for all college classes. To qualify at the ZP-2, you must meet the following: A bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. OR One (1) full academic year of graduate-level education that includes a combination of courses in mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. (One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study or, 18 semester hours is considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.) OR Superior Academic Achievement as demonstrated by a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a bachelor’s with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. The bachelor’s degree must be from an accredited college or university with one of the following below provisions: Class standing — Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-point average (G.P.A.) — Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B” or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B+” or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2years of the curriculum. Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society — Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies listed below. Agencies considering eligibility based on any society not included in the following list must ensure that the honor society meets the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision. If you are currently enrolled in or accepted in a graduate-level program, please submit your undergraduate (or bachelor’s) transcripts along with your graduate-level transcripts.
This vacancy is for a Student Trainee (Computer Science) in the National Telecommunications and Information Administration within the Department of Commerce. The NTIA is seeking innovative Pathways Interns to work full-time or part-time (up to 20 hours per week) while attending school. The Pathways Internship Program provides students, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work and explore Federal careers while still in school and getting paid for work performed.
