In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA’s unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-15, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level: Leading projects or a diverse team of technical experts to integrate and influence stakeholders by assessing technical issues, establishing consensus on methods to eliminate or mitigate hazards; Providing technical guidance to senior management on Safety and Mission Assurance processes that include integrating hazard analyses, safety requirements, test safety, reducing hazards, or risk mitigation; Providing oversight within the Safety, Reliability, Testing, and Quality Assurance program for aerospace and aeronautical programs through advanced mission study, design and development, and operations of space systems. As a Deputy Chief with the Safety and Test Operations Division, you will manage the Safety & Mission Assurance (SMA) Institutional Safety functions for the Center. Oversee the SMA administration of: resources, SMA contract requirements and performance assessments, development of products, and of institutional safety and health processes. Plans, executes and manages SMA test and fire safety, construction and additional institutional disciplines in coordination and support of the Directorate.
