Job Details
Employment Type: Full Time
Department: Engineering and Data Science
Compensation: $250,000–$315,000 per year
About the Role
The Head of Data will help shape strategy for consumer social products at the intersection of artificial intelligence and digital communication. Working closely with executive leadership, this person will embed data into product and business decision-making while applying modern AI tools to improve workflows and accelerate product development.
This role provides end-to-end ownership of the data function and includes building and leading a small, high-impact team in a player-coach capacity. The ideal candidate is an experienced data leader who remains closely involved in hands-on work while providing strategic direction, hiring and developing talent, and establishing high standards for data quality, experimentation, and decision-making.
Who You Are
- You enjoy building, investigating, and solving problems rather than focusing primarily on expanding your management scope.
- You are a structured thinker who can break ambiguous problems into clear components, create practical plans, and execute efficiently.
- You are highly comfortable with numbers and can quickly perform estimates and back-of-the-envelope calculations.
- You prioritize work rigorously and avoid analyses or projects that are unlikely to influence decisions or outcomes.
- You are willing to challenge assumptions and encourage product teams to quantify the expected impact of roadmap decisions.
- You pay close attention to metric definitions, statistical validity, data consistency, logging quality, and unexpected results.
- You can move comfortably between detailed analysis and high-level strategic thinking.
- You take a systems-oriented approach and continuously improve tools, workflows, and processes.
- You are proactive, resourceful, and comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy.
- You take end-to-end accountability and address problems without waiting for extensive direction or approval.
- You are evidence-driven, low-ego, and willing to revise your opinions when new data becomes available.
- You care more about finding the correct answer than receiving credit for an idea.
- You demonstrate strong ethical judgment, positive energy, and a collaborative approach to working with teammates.
- You are deeply motivated by the opportunity to create meaningful products and deliver high-impact work.

- Metrics and Dashboards: Establish precise metric definitions and build dashboards and monitoring tools that make product and business performance easy to understand.
- Experiment Analysis: Personally review complex experiments, evaluate results, identify limitations, and ensure readouts meet a high standard of statistical quality.
- Decision Forums: Own the forums where teams align on performance, including experiment readouts, post-launch reviews, and discussions of weekly metric movement.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Serve as the connection point across product decisions by helping teams understand what is working, what is not working, and what actions should follow.
- Product Recommendations: Translate detailed analysis into clear recommendations about what to build, how to measure success, and where the organization should focus.
- AI-Enabled Workflows: Explore and implement advanced AI tools that improve data workflows and increase the speed and quality of execution.
- Automation: Help develop a closed-loop operating system in which data increasingly automates important work, including feature prioritization, bug detection, and performance monitoring.

- Tool Development: Prototype and build new AI-powered tools that create leverage for product, data, and business teams.

- Mentorship: Mentor high-potential Data Scientists and help them strengthen their technical, analytical, product, and communication skills.
- Data Culture: Build a culture centered on accuracy, practical decision-making, continuous improvement, accountability, and high-quality execution.
- Process Improvement: Regularly review completed work, identify lessons, and improve systems and processes based on those findings.
