About the Role
This opportunity is for a Senior Software Engineer who will help build and scale a student financial engagement platform used by universities and their students. The role combines hands-on backend and frontend development with ownership of meaningful product areas from initial design through production deployment and ongoing support.
You will work closely with Product, Design, Customer Experience, Integrations, and Engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable customer-facing software. The position requires strong technical judgment, high standards for software quality, and the ability to make decisions that support both current product needs and long-term platform growth.
AI-assisted development is a core part of the engineering workflow. Tools such as Cursor, Claude, Codex, and similar technologies are used regularly to help build and ship software. Experience developing products in ways that allow AI tooling to understand context and collaborate effectively is highly relevant to this role.
What You’ll Do
- Lead end-to-end development of product features from initial design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing production support
- Architect and build scalable backend services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js
- Contribute to modern frontend application development, with React preferred
- Design systems with reliability, observability, scalability, and long-term maintainability in mind
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Customer Experience, and Integrations teams to deliver customer-facing functionality
- Participate in code reviews and maintain high standards for code quality and system design
- Improve engineering processes, internal tooling, and technical documentation as the platform scales
- Help shape technical decisions and contribute to the continued development of engineering culture
- Use AI-assisted development tools as a regular part of the software engineering workflow
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience building and operating production systems at scale
- Strong backend development experience, preferably with TypeScript and Node.js
- Experience building modern frontend applications, preferably with React
- Experience working with relational databases and writing performant SQL queries
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and modern deployment practices
- Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, and observability best practices
- High-agency, high-urgency approach to solving problems and delivering results
- Ability to own technical problems from initial definition through completion
- Ability to make consequential technical decisions that directly affect product and engineering outcomes
- Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with Product, Design, Engineering, and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working at an early-stage startup
- Experience in fintech or another regulated industry
- Familiarity with payment systems or financial infrastructure
- Experience designing or integrating systems with external partners or APIs
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, Codex, or similar technologies as part of a regular engineering workflow
Travel
- Attendance at one to two in-person company onsite gatherings per year is required
