(Junior) Software Engineer

About the role
You’ll join a shared services engineering team that builds and operates platforms, automated pipelines, APIs, and cloud infrastructure used across the organization. This is a learning-focused role designed for an early-career engineer who wants hands-on experience with automation, cloud services, production systems, and platform engineering.
What you’ll work on
- Build, test, deploy, and maintain automated jobs that deliver data between internal systems and integration partners.
- Support cloud infrastructure including compute, storage, queues, and scheduled jobs.
- Retrieve, transform, and validate data using internal APIs and existing data sources.
- Write scripts and small services using JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, or Python.
- Package applications and services for deployment with Docker.
- Build and maintain CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions.
- Contribute to infrastructure-as-code definitions and environment configuration.
- Add monitoring, logging, and alerting to help identify delivery failures.
- Troubleshoot integration and infrastructure issues such as malformed data, failed deliveries, and deployment problems.
- Follow secure practices for handling credentials, secrets, and partner data.
- Participate in code reviews and daily team standups.
- Create technical documentation and runbooks for integrations and infrastructure.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in at least one programming language, with JavaScript or TypeScript preferred.
- Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and web service communication.
- Basic understanding of software deployment, servers, containers, environments, or cloud services.
- Familiarity with databases and basic SQL queries.
- Comfort working from the command line in a Linux or Unix environment.
- Experience with Git or another version control system.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a distributed team.
- Curiosity, accountability, and willingness to learn new technologies.
Nice-to-have skills
- Exposure to Node.js and the npm ecosystem.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools, especially GitHub Actions.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or Docker.
- Exposure to infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
- Experience with observability tools, metrics, logs, dashboards, or alerting.
- Coursework, internship, or personal project experience with APIs, data pipelines, ETL, or automation.
- Familiarity with Agile development and tools such as GitHub, Jira, or Docker.
- Interest in open-source software, software supply chain security, and long-term software maintenance.
