Job Details
Annual Salary: $80,000 to $95,000 per year.
Candidate Screening: Selected candidates must complete fingerprinting at a government facility and undergo a background check.
About the Role
The Functional Tester will support a federal technology project serving the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This role focuses on software quality assurance, application functionality, defect documentation, regression testing, performance testing, and User Acceptance Testing within a SAFe/Agile environment.
The position requires experience testing web-based applications, collaborating with cross-functional technical teams, and using testing and development tools such as Selenium, Jira, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Java, Python, and SQL.
What You’ll Do
- Develop detailed test plans and test cases based on business requirements and technical specifications.
- Review requirements and application functionality to ensure appropriate test coverage.
- Execute manual and automated tests to identify defects and confirm that software meets established quality standards.
- Validate web-based application functionality and end-to-end business workflows.
- Identify, document, and report software defects to the development team.
- Provide detailed defect descriptions, supporting information, and clear steps for reproducing reported issues.
- Conduct regression testing to verify that new code changes do not negatively affect existing features or functionality.
- Participate in and support User Acceptance Testing to validate application behavior and business processes.
- Perform performance testing to confirm that software meets established performance criteria and benchmarks.
- Document test cases, testing activities, test results, and defects to support ongoing development and application maintenance.
- Work closely with developers, QA analysts, and other cross-functional team members to support application integration and testing.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in testing processes, procedures, tools, and techniques.
- Stay current with relevant software testing tools, practices, and methodologies.
- Support team objectives and take on additional testing-related responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least four years of demonstrated experience as a Functional Tester or in a similar software testing role.
- Experience testing web-based applications.
- Proficiency with testing and development tools such as Selenium, Jira, Azure DevOps, and Jenkins.
- Experience using scripting or programming languages such as Java or Python.
- Working knowledge of SQL.
- Hands-on experience with SAFe/Agile frameworks, methodologies, and practices.
- Experience developing test plans, writing test cases, executing tests, and documenting results.
- Experience with manual testing, automated testing, regression testing, performance testing, and User Acceptance Testing.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and resolve complex technical problems.
- Strong written communication skills for documenting defects, test cases, testing results, and reproduction steps.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Previous experience supporting government or federal projects is preferred.
- Ability to obtain a government security clearance.
- Ability to complete fingerprinting at a government facility and successfully undergo a background check as part of the hiring process.
